Our client, a leading engineering and construction firm based in Hartland, WI, is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer with a strong background in commercial building systems. Key Responsibilities

1. Electrical System Design & Engineering

  • Design and detail commercial electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting systems, HVAC controls, fire alarms, emergency backup systems, security systems, and low-voltage communication systems.
  • Develop electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and wiring layouts in compliance with local and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA).
  • Specify electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and lighting controls.
  • Create detailed design packages for construction and installation.
  • Integrate Building Management Systems (BMS) for optimized building performance.

2. Project Leadership

  • Oversee end-to-end electrical project lifecycles, including conceptual design, detailed engineering, and commissioning phases.
  • Ensure projects adhere to budgets, timelines, and compliance standards.
  • Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, contractors, and project managers to ensure seamless project execution.

3. Technical Expertise

  • Design automation infrastructure for advanced controls and PLC integration.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical systems, providing innovative solutions for power distribution, climate control systems, and automation challenges.
  • Conduct load calculations, short-circuit analysis, and energy efficiency assessments.

4. Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure designs meet local, state, and national building codes and safety standards.
  • Conduct site inspections and provide technical guidance during construction and commissioning.

5. Mentorship & Collaboration

  • Mentor and train junior engineers and CAD technicians.
  • Review and approve technical documentation, submittals, and design drawings.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence within the team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License (active or ability to acquire within a reasonable timeframe).
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in electrical design engineering, specifically in commercial building systems.
  • Proven expertise in power distribution, lighting systems, fire alarms, HVAC controls, and PLC automation infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and other relevant CAD tools.
  • Strong knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA standards, and other industry regulations.
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and Energy Management Systems (EMS) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience designing mission-critical facilities, such as data centers or healthcare environments.
  • Background in renewable energy systems and energy efficiency optimization.
  • Familiarity with sustainability standards (e.g., LEED certification requirements).
  • Experience managing subcontractors and third-party consultants during large-scale projects.
